Manual Procedure for "Basic Settings"

Volkswagen and Audi

After a Volkswagen or Audi vehicle has been repaired, in most cases the Engine control module (ECM) or the Transmission control unit (ECM)  does not allow proper vehicle operation. Symptoms (here we discus only the transmission) may be the transmission is in safe mode or erratic shifting accompanied  by drivability complaints.

All trouble codes have to be cleared this is NOT an option

We recommend using a computer-based program (VAG) to perform this task. Disconnecting the battery is Not recommended because of other systems that may be adversely affected .(Don't work like in the stone time)

The next procedure that must be performed is the "Basic Settings"                                                                                    Basic Settings is the Throttle - position-sensor and kick-down relearn settings that both the TCM and the ECM must have to send proper commands for the engine and transmission for them to operate properly.

I case you don't have any computer equipment use the following procedure on all VW and Audi vehicles.!

On VW/Audi cars with 096,097,098,01M, 01N, and 01P transmissions use the manually procedure to reset the          "Basic Setting".

  • Turn the ignition on, do not start the engine

  • Move the gear-selector lever to the D4 position

  • Depress the accelerator pedal all he way to the floor and hold it there for 30 seconds.

  • After 30 seconds move the gear selector lever back to Park position

  • Release the accelerator pedal

  • Turn the ignition off.

  • After completion of the previous six steps, drive the vehicle on the road and perform three individual Upshift sequences and kick-down at light medium and heavy throttle conditions.

  •      NOTICE: The system will fine-tune themselves over the next 50 to 75 miles of driving.
